UniPlanYour Journey

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 9 July 2026

1. Introduction

UniPlan ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our Service at uniplan.me.

By using UniPlan, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly (Stored Locally)

When you use UniPlan's grade entry feature, you provide:

  • A-Level subjects and grades (achieved or predicted)
  • Whether grades are predicted or achieved

IMPORTANT: This data is stored ONLY in your browser's localStorage. It never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

2.2 Analytics (Google Analytics): Opt-In Only

On your first visit, a cookie consent banner asks whether you're happy for us to use Google Analytics. Analytics cookies are not set until you actively agree. If you decline, or simply close the banner without agreeing, no analytics cookie is placed and the Service works exactly the same either way. If you agree, Google Analytics may collect:

  • Device type, browser type, and operating system
  • Pages visited and features used
  • Time spent on pages
  • General geographic location (country/city level, not precise location)
  • Referral source (how you found our site)
  • IP address (anonymised)

You can change your mind at any time. Clear your cookies or use your browser's privacy settings to withdraw consent, and no further analytics cookies will be set on your next visit. For more information on how Google uses data, visit Google's Privacy Policy.

2.3 Affiliate Partner Tracking

Affiliate tracking cookies (such as Spires tutoring) are only ever set if you actively click on a partner link. They are never set just by browsing UniPlan. These cookies track referrals and commissions and do not contain your personal grades or UniPlan usage data.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information for:

  • Grade matching (localStorage only): Your grades are used entirely on your device to filter and categorise courses as Safe/Target/Reach
  • Analytics (Google Analytics): Understanding which features are used, identifying bugs, and improving user experience
  • Service improvement: Analysing aggregate usage patterns to enhance the Service
  • Affiliate tracking: Tracking referrals to partner services to earn commissions that keep UniPlan free

We do NOT sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties except as described in this policy (Google Analytics and affiliate partners).

Lawful basis: any optional processing (analytics cookies and our newsletter) relies on your consent. Consent is freely given, specific, and can be withdrawn at any time (see 2.2 and 4.3) without affecting your ability to use the rest of the Service.

4. Data Storage and Retention

4.1 Local Storage (Your Grades)

Your A-Level grades are stored in your browser's localStorage and remain on your device until you manually clear them by:

  • Clearing your browser cache/storage
  • Using incognito/private browsing mode (data not saved)
  • Uninstalling your browser

We have NO access to this data. It never reaches our servers.

4.2 Analytics Data (Google Analytics)

Google Analytics retains data for 26 months by default. We use anonymised IP addresses to enhance privacy.

4.3 Cookies

We use cookies for:

  • Google Analytics (opt-in only): Only set once you agree via the cookie consent banner. Decline or ignore the banner and no analytics cookie is placed. The Service is unaffected either way
  • Affiliate partners (link-triggered only): Only set if you click a partner link, to track referrals

You can withdraw analytics consent at any time by clearing your cookies or adjusting your browser's privacy settings. You can also disable cookies entirely in your browser settings. This may affect analytics tracking but will not stop the core Service from working.

5. Your Rights (GDPR Compliance)

Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • Right to access: Request confirmation of what personal data we process (note: grade data is stored locally only)
  • Right to erasure: For local data, use Settings to export or delete your data, or clear your browser storage; for analytics or newsletter data, contact us
  • Right to object: Decline or withdraw analytics consent at any time via the cookie banner or your browser settings
  • Right to data portability: Export your data at any time via Settings → Export, or your browser's developer tools
  • Right to withdraw consent: Stop using the Service, unsubscribe from the newsletter, or disable cookies at any time. None of this affects the core Service

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical measures to protect your data:

  • HTTPS encryption for all data transmission
  • No server-side storage of personal grades or user accounts
  • Regular security updates to our platform

However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Google Analytics: Usage tracking and analytics (Privacy Policy)
  • Hetzner: Website hosting, on servers located in Nuremberg, Germany (EU) (Privacy Policy)
  • Neon: PostgreSQL database for the limited data that leaves your device (e.g. purchase orders) (Privacy Policy)
  • Affiliate partners: Spires tutoring and other educational services (refer to their respective privacy policies)

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites or services.

8. Children and Young People

UniPlan is built for sixth-formers (roughly age 16-18) working out their UK university applications, and for their parents. Here's what that means for you in plain terms:

  • No account needed: You don't have to sign up, log in, or hand over your name or email just to use UniPlan. You can enter your grades, build a shortlist, and see your rankings without telling us who you are.
  • Your data stays on your device: Grades, favourites, your shortlist, and your rankings are saved only in your own browser's local storage, not on our servers, and not visible to us or anyone else.
  • If you're under 13: please ask a parent or guardian before sharing any personal details with us, for example, before signing up to the newsletter with your email address.
  • Your rights: you can see this policy any time to understand what's collected. To delete everything, use Settings → export/delete on the data stored in your browser, or simply clear your browser's storage. There's nothing on our servers to remove. If you've given us an email (e.g. for the newsletter), you or a parent can ask us to delete it.
  • Parents: if you have any questions about how UniPlan works or want to get in touch about your child's use of the Service, see section 11 (Contact Us) below.

9. International Data Transfers

Your localStorage data remains on your device. Analytics data processed by Google may be transferred to and stored in countries outside the UK/EU. Google complies with the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

11. Contact Us

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or wish to exercise your GDPR rights, please visit our About page for more information about the Service.

Your Privacy Matters: Your grades are stored only on your device. We use analytics to improve the Service, but we never sell your data.
