Our Physics with Astrophysics MPhys degree extends our Physics with Astrophysics BSc by a year. This extra year is for your integrated Master's and includes an extended project. Compared to our Physics with Astrophysics BSc, our Masters degree offers more in-depth study in the final year. You'll also complete a significant extended project, performing research level investigations of Astrophysics in areas like: * general relativity * geophysical and astrophysical fluids You’ll also gain hands-on experience in our high-spec facilities, developing the skills needed for your career. By the end of your degree, you’ll have a strong understanding of physics and advanced mathematics. You'll be prepared for a range of careers in research, industry, and beyond. ### **Flexible degree structure** Our flexible degree structure allows you to tailor your studies. All students follow the same curriculum in Stage 1, and begin to specialise in Stage 2. You can transfer between Physics disciplines until the end of Stage 1. You can also switch between the BSc and MPhys of your chosen discipline until the end of Stage 2: * Physics MPhys * Theoretical Physics MPhys * Physics with Astrophysics MPhys You'll graduate with an accredited degree and an interdisciplinary skillset in-demand with employers. This course is also ideal for someone interested in pursuing research or further study in physics or mathematics.
A level: AAB | AAB including Mathematics and Physics, excluding General Studies and Critical Thinking, OR ABB including Mathematics and Physics if a third A level is from: Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry or grade 2 in any STEP paper. For Biology, Chemistry and Physics A Levels, we require a pass in the practical element where offered. | Scottish Higher: AAABB | AAABB (combination of Highers and Advanced Highers) with AB at Advanced Higher. Advanced Higher Physics is preferred. If a candidate is not taking Advanced Higher Physics, we would consider candidates offering Advanced Higher Mathematics AND one of Biology, Chemistry, Computing Science, Design and Manufacture, Engineering Science or Mathematics of Mechanics on a case-by-case basis. Candidates must have Higher Mathematics and Physics at grade B or above if either of these subjects are not taken at Advanced Higher. | Access to HE Diploma: 45 UCAS points | Access to HE Diploma | Access to HE Diploma | 45 level 3 credits at distinction including Mathematical Studies and Physics. A Newcastle University Mathematics and Statistics pre-entry course may also be required. | International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme: 34 UCAS points | With Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches) and Physics at Higher Level grade 6. If not studying full IB Diploma - Grades 6, 6, 5 at Higher Level including Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches) and Physics at Grade 6 and completion of a national high school diploma. | Leaving Certificate - Higher Level (Ireland) (first awarded in 2017) | Candidates will be considered on an individual basis. | Cambridge International Pre-U Certificate - Principal: D3D3M2 | including Mathematics and Physics.
