Our BSc Industrial Economics with Placement Year gives you a unique opportunity to explore how economics applies to real-world business challenges. You’ll learn how firms operate in competitive markets, how government policies shape business decisions, and how data can be used to drive innovation and strategy. Combining the rigour of an economics degree with practical insights into firms, markets, and competition, this course equips you with the skills and knowledge to understand and influence the decisions that shape today’s global economy. By undertaking a placement year, you’ll apply what you’ve learned in a professional environment, gaining valuable experience, skills, and contacts to help launch your career. Established over 75 years ago, our Industrial Economics degree has a proven track record of producing influential leaders across industries. Alongside your placement year, you can broaden your experience through optional study abroad opportunities at the university's campuses in China or Malaysia, or our partner universities. This course is also available as a standard three-year degree. Our Industrial Economics with Placement Year course allows you to follow your interests and career aspirations by selecting from a wide range of optional modules alongside your core subjects. By undertaking a Placement Year, you will receive additional workshops in your first and second years, alongside professional advice from our dedicated Placements Team. You will spend year three in industry applying your skills in real-world business environments. You can apply for placements available to students on your course or can agree your own placement with an appropriate company. During your placement year, you remain fully registered with the university, with regular meetings with our dedicated Placements Team. (no less than 6.0 in any element) English language requirements As well as IELTS (listed above), we also accept other English language qualifications. This includes TOEFL iBT, Pearson PTE, GCSE, IB and O level English. Check our English language policies and equivalencies for further details. For presessional English or one-year foundation courses, you must take IELTS for UKVI to meet visa regulations. If you need support to meet the required level, you may be able to attend a Presessional English for Academic Purposes (PEAP) course. Our Centre for English Language Education is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK. If you successfully complete your presessional course to the required level, you can then progress to your degree course. This means that you won't need to retake IELTS or equivalent.
